Moeen's 53-ball ton, Plunkett five-for crushes Windies
Moeen Ali's glorious hundred, off just 53 balls, set up England's 124-run win over Windies in the third One-Day International in Bristol on Sunday as the home side went 2-0 up in the five-match series with two games left to play.
Moeen's 102 -- with his second fifty coming off just 12 deliveries -- was instrumental in England finishing with an imposing 369 for 9.
Windies was in the contest until Chris Gayle -- who missed the rainswept no-result in the second ODI at Trent Bridge on Thursday with a hamstring injury -- was run out for 94.
Windies was all out for 245, with Liam Plunkett taking 5 for 52 -- his first-ever ODI five-wicket haul -- as England won with 65 balls to spare.
Earlier, Moeen raced to his ton with nearly half of his runs coming via eight sixes, before he fell for 102. His century also included seven fours, with the allrounder needing a mere 12 balls for his second fifty.
Player of the match Moeen's hundred was also the second quickest by an England batsman at this level after Jos Buttler's 46-ball ODI century against Pakistan in Dubai in 2015.
Meanwhile, England's total was its largest in an ODI against Windies, surpassing its 328 for 7 at Edgbaston in 2009, and its fifth-largest in this format overall.
Joe Root (84) and Ben Stokes (73) had laid the platform for a large total with a fourth-wicket stand of 132 in 20 overs after England was sent into bat. But the home side slumped to 217 for 6 in the 35th over, and it required a stand of 117 in 76 balls between Moeen and Chris Woakes (34) to help the side recover.
Moeen stepped on the pedal as England scored a remarkable 50 runs in two overs -- the 45 and 46th of their innings -- while blasting 123 runs in its last 10 overs.
Moeen, after being reprieved on 87, brought up his century with two sixes in three balls off Miguel Cummins. He eventually holed out off Ashley Nurse and received a standing ovation from a near-capacity crowd.
Windies lost too many early wickets in the chase. Evin Lewis, the opener, succumbed to David Willey, and then Plunkett had both Shai Hope (20) and Marlon Samuels (11) caught behind.
Gayle was looking set for a century but failed to beat Adil Rashid's direct hit from midwicket and was run out, having faced 78 balls including nine fours and six sixes. Gayle's exit left Windies 176 for 4 in the 27th over and the innings came to an end quickly thereafter.
The series continues at The Oval on Wednesday.
