Wiaan Mulder v Zimbabwe

Mulder revels in his first day as stand-in Test captain

The all-rounder remained unbeaten on a staggering 264 after South Africa was put into bat by Zimbabwe at Bulawayo.

South Africa stand-in skipper Wiaan Mulder produced a world-record knock against Zimbabwe, hitting the highest ever score in the first ever innings as the Test captain and scoring the fastest ever 250 (in terms of balls) by a Proteas player.

He also beat the record for the highest score by a South African batter on a single day of a Test match, while hitting the second fastest double century by a South African player, and remains unbeaten on an astounding 264 after the Proteas ended Day 1 of the second Test match at 465/4.

This was South Africa's highest score on a single day in a Test and was also the most runs scored in a day's play in Zimbabwe.

After Zimbabwe made early inroads, Mulder with the help of David Bedingham put together a crucial 184-run partnership. Apart from Bedingham, Lhuan-dre Pretorius also scored a half-century at a brisk pace to help the current World Test Champions post a mammoth total on the first day of the second Test.

Mulder was announced as a stand-in captain for Keshav Maharaj, who was ruled out of the series due to a groin injury. Regular skipper Temba Bavuma is also sidelined.

Mulder had also scored a century in the first Test of the series which the Proteas won by a massive 328 runs.
