The Twenty20 Indian Premier League match between Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals was abandoned without a ball being bowled on Tuesday due to persistent rain at the Kingsmead cricket ground.

Both teams get one point each. This takes Mumbai to the top of the points table after their convincing victory in the opening match of the tournament against Chennai Super Kings.

Mumbai won by 19 runs against last years’ finalists owing to a valiant half century by its skipper Sachin Tendulkar (59) and a total of five wickets by its Sri Lankan bowlers Lasith Malinga (15-3) and Sanath Jayasuriya (34-2).

Rajasthan, in the meanwhile, lost their opening encounter against Bangalore Royal Challengers. Chasing 133, last years winners were bowled out for 58 - which is the lowest total by a team in the IPL.

One loss and one no result puts Rajasthan at the bottom of the points table. Only Kings XI Punjab is lower than Rajasthan after losing both their opening games.

Earlier last evening, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab by 11 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-shortened match to claim its first victory in the tournament.

Deccan Chargers will face off against the Bangalore Royal Challengers today.
