Murali chosen for farewell Australia tour
Record-breaker Muttiah Muralidaran will make a farewell tour of Australia in Sri Lankas limited-overs series Down Under, announced Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Saturday.
Muralidaran, 38, is the leading wicket-taker in both Test and One-Day International cricket and, after announcing his retirement from the Test cricket in July, is unlikely to appear in Australia again.
Muralidaran made his last Test appearance against India earlier this year, but has made himself available for limited-overs selection with the objective of competing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, a tournament he captured with Sri Lanka in 1996.
Chaminda Vaas and Sanath Jayasuriya were reportedly in contention to make a surprise return to the limited-overs squad, but the veterans were not called upon by selectors.
Sri Lanka begin their tour with a Twenty20 match against Australia in Perth on 31 October, before three One-Day Internationals in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in early November.
