Muri Women Reign Supreme in Cooks
The Muri 'Creeps' Women's team are the 2011 Rarotonga Edgewater Resort and Spa Saturday Premier Champions following an epic final in the Cook Islands.
The Creep girls came up against top of the table Arorangi Red Hot Chicks over at Raemaru Park in picture perfect conditions for cricket.
Winning the toss, the Red Hot Chicks decided to exert pressure through their bowling attack, and they certainly didn't disappoint with Deana Paiti and Leanne Kiria showing good form with the ball and disrupting the Muri batter's flow.
Creeps' Annabelle Tuaati showed why she is a force to be reckoned with, blazing 17 quick fire runs and steadying the Muri ship to accumulate a total team score of 89 runs for the Red Hot Chicks to chase.
In reply, Arorangi lost quick wickets amidst some superb bowling from Muri youngster Tauhere Putai, who took 4 wickets for only 2 runs and really took the game from Arorangi. Josephine Bain battled hard for the Red Hot Chicks; putting her body on the line through her entire innings.
Arorangi were all out for 76 runs, sending the 'Creep' girls into hysteria to take out the final by 13 runs.
Edgewater Resort and Spa's CEO Chris McGeown was on hand to present the awards for most influential bowler (Tauhere Putai) and batter (Annabelle Tuaati) of the final, and also the victorious coach ( Rama Taiki). McGeown then presented the Edgewater Saturday Premier Trophy to Muri captain Punanga Kaveao, who thanked McGeown and the Edgewater Resort and Spa for their invaluable sponsorship in ensuring women's cricketing success in the Cook Islands.
Matavera played off for 3rd place against a determined Turangi team at Takitumu School, with Matavera winning their encounter by 34 runs.
