Musa, Shamsurrahman star for Afghanistan U19
As many as three Canadian batsmen fell without opening their account. Amish Taploo was run out in the next over before Musa struck for a second time, having Akash Gill caught at first slip.
Arbaash Khan, the captain, led a brief recovery alongside Arslan Khan, putting on 62 for the fifth wicket. But it was slow going as the duo used up 19 overs. The partnership was broken by Rashid, who dismissed Arslan for 38, the highest individual score of the innings, off 52 balls that included four boundaries and a six.
Arbaash would depart soon after for 33 and Canada once again lost wickets in a flurry. Kurt Ramdath offered some resistance at No. 9 with 20 off 34 balls but Afghanistan's bowlers wiped out the rest in quick time.
Karim Janat and Ihsanullah, the captain, started the chase rapidly, putting on 46 in just 6.2 overs. Harsh Thaker, the off-spinner, was taken apart for 14 runs in his first over, while Abdul Haseeb also proved to be very expensive as both batsmen found the fence at frequent intervals. Both Haseeb and Thaker finished with identical figures of 4-0-32-0.
The breakthrough came in the seventh over when Janat gave an easy catch to mid-on off Shlok Patel, the left-arm spinner. Janat made 29 off 24 balls.
Ihsanullah added 23 more in quick time with Tariq before falling to the same bowler for a 27-ball 31 that included four boundaries and two hits over the fence.
Thereafter, Tariq held the key as he stitched together brief but useful partnerships with Waheedullah Shafaq and Musa. Tariq fell with Afghanistan 14 short of victory before Ikram Faizi, the wicketkeeper, and Shamsurrahman took it over the line.
Miraj Patel, the off-spinner, picked up 3 for 17 in 3.1 overs, while Shlok finished with 2 for 31 off eight overs.
