Nadi has strong win in Fiji Under 19 Tournament

The Nadi Jetsetters have firmed as favourites to take out the Under 19 Western Conference Cricket tournament in Fiji after their second win against Suva today in Nadi.

The Jetsetters scored a 48 run victory over Suva to leave the capital city side languishing at the bottom of the table with no wins from their first two games.

Nadi batted first in today?s game at Namaka Public School in Nadi, posting a score of 135 all out.

All rounder Vakarau Tauyesa top scored for his team with a hard hitting 28 that included 3 fours and one huge six.

Iliesa Navatu and Solomone Kalounisana also reached double figures to help Nadi reach what looked to be a defendable total against some excellent bowling.

Steve Vakaliwaliwa (3 for 30) and Dillon Wolfgramm (3 for 39) each claimed three scalps for Suva while Sefenaia Vakalolova followed up his four wicket haul yesterday with another two Nadi scalps.

Unfortunately for the Suva Capitals their batsmen never really looked like they would reach the target as wickets fell regularly.

Suva Capitals Captain Vakaliwaliwa, played a leaders innings, compiling a patient 12 runs as wickets tumbled around him.

The youngest player in the tournament, 13 year old John Penrose (8 not out), displayed his talents as he combined with Jack Wolfgramm to put on 23 runs late in the innings but it wasn?t enough to snatch victory.

In the end Suva was dismissed for 87 runs, with Tauyesa (3 for 22 including 2 maidens) and Viliame Ratu (3 for 38) leading the Nadi bowling attack. They were assisted by Taitusi Ratucaucau who took 2 for 21 from his four overs.

The win leaves Nadi at the top of the table with each team having played twice. A win for Nadi tomorrow against Lautoka will see them clinch the title, while a loss will see the tournament decided on net run rate.

Entering the last days play any of three teams can still win the conference championship.
