New Zealand confirm split ODI squads for India series

The Black Caps recall Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Seifert even as Rachin Ravindra returns from a shoulder injury for the first three ODIs.

Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra, and Tim Seifert have been named in New Zealand’s squad for the upcoming five-match home ODI series against India, commencing on 4 November.

With less than a year to go for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup and an eye on managing player workload ahead of the subsequent Test series, New Zealand have named split squads.

New Zealand ODI squads:

ODIs 1–3: Mitchell Santner (C), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (WK), Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Will Young.

ODIs 4 & 5: Mitchell Santner (C), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Lockie Ferguson, Mitch Hay (WK), Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert (WK), Blair Tickner, Will Young.

White-ball skipper Mitchell Santner will lead both groups, with seven new players joining for the final two ODIs. The red-ball players depart for Wellington after Game 3 to prepare for the first Test at the Basin Reserve on 19 November.

Ravindra, returning from a shoulder injury that sidelined him from the preceding T20I series against India, is included for the first three ODIs.

Allen, Ferguson, and Seifert are slotted into the squad for the final two 50-over matches. Allen and Ferguson last featured in the ODIs, during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2023 whereas Seifert's previous appearance came 18 months ago against Pakistan.

Zak Foulkes, Will O’Rourke, and Ben Sears were unavailable for selection as they continue injury rehabilitation.

Countdown for ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 is on

The countdown for ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2027 begins.

Head coach Rob Walter highlighted the dual objective of testing squad depth ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, while maintaining focused preparation for the World Test Championship series.

"With the ODI World Cup just one year away it’s important for us to also view these matches as valuable preparation for that event," he said.

“Bringing in seven players for the final ODIs allows us to test our depth and see how those players fare against a world-class side.

“Obviously every Test match is important for us in terms of championship points, which is why we’re extracting some of that squad early for additional preparation before the first Test against India at the Basin Reserve on November 19.”
