Nou bowls EAP to victory over ACT
East Asia Pacific (EAP) recorded its second win in the final game of the Australian Country Cricket Championships (ACCC) to achieve its best performance in the seven-year history EAP has competed.
A fired-up EAP attack lead by a five-wicket wicket haul from PNG opener Loa Nou dismissed Australian Capital Territory (ACT) just 12 runs short of EAP?s total of 170.
"The guys have played some great cricket over the last two weeks and thoroughly deserved to win this last game," coach Charlie Burke said.
Willie Gavera picked up the final ACT wicket when fellow countryman Vani Vagi Morea took a classic diving keeper?s catch down leg side. Morea took over as keeper after Trevor Langa was left out of the final game and took six catches in what is now a record for EAP.
"We broke some EAP records along the way which shows we have had a really good carnival and must continue to build on this result in 2011," Burke added.
Assad Vala was awarded the player of the series for EAP, capping off an excellent campaign for the stylish left-hander. He has also been selected in the Australian team of the championships and will receive his cap at the closing function. Loa Nou became the joint leading wicket-taker for EAP with his bag of five in the last game and joined Willie Gavera on 13 wickets for the tournament.
Scores:
EAP 170 all out (Vala 95)
ACT 159 all out (Nou 5-68, Gavera 3-42, Sakaria Lomani 1-17 & Mansale 1-21)
EAP 2nd innings 1-58 (Josaia Baba 31)
