NZ opportunity for Cook Island women
Cook Islands Cricket is well known for establishing international partnerships to provide unprecedented opportunities for its cricketers and the latest is just as exciting.
Marion Larsen (Arorangi), Bene Matapo and Amelia Moetaua (Matavera) are the latest to benefit from an extraordinary opportunity to travel to New Zealand to train with some of New Zealand's top female cricketers.
The trio of national squad players were impressive when New Zealand coach Pat Malcon arrived in September to coach and scout our local talent.
The result of their hard work and talent is a week long elite camp with top first class womens side the Northern Spirit. The spirit are jam packed with New Zealand cricket reps which means our very own Cooks players will be trained by NZ's finest coaches - rubbing shoulders with some of the world's top players.
The Cooks trio depart today (Wednesday) arriving two days ahead of the camp to utilise the opportunity of additional coaching with legend Malcon. Crickets Alister Stevic says that putting the partnership together was hard but rewarding work.
"Certainly a significant amount of time goes into putting together these opportunities that is why we are so very fortunate to have the support of The Computer Man, ANZ and Sabine Janneck in affording this opportunity."
