Hamish Bennett and Scott Kuggeleijn miss out from the squad which clean swept India 3-0.

Boult has proven his fitness with a significant impact in the two-Test series, taking 11 wickets in the 2-0 victory. Henry meanwhile has been playing for his domestic side, Canterbury, claiming eight wickets in his last appearance in a first class fixture against Otago.

Ferguson has played three domestic fixtures since coming back from injury – two List A matches and one first-class – taking six wickets across 58 overs in all. New Zealand head coach, Gary Stead, believes all three players are up to the challenge of facing Australia in their own backyard though.

"Playing Australia in Australia is one of the great challenges in world cricket and you know you will be severely tested in all aspects of the game," he said in a press release. "Our one-day unit is a pretty settled one with plenty of experience and I think that showed in the recent series against India.

“It’s great to welcome back the class of Trent, Matt and Lockie who spearheaded our run to the Cricket World Cup final last year."

The last ODI any of the trio played in was the dramatic ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 final on 14 July, over seven months ago.

Retained in the squad is Kyle Jamieson, who has had a stellar start to his international career, with the tall seamer picking up 12 wickets in his four international games to date, including a maiden five-for in the second Test against India.

“Kyle’s made every post a winner since his international debut this season and he’ll be a handy asset to have in Australia," Stead said of the tall seamer.

The three-match series begins on Friday 13 March at Sydney Cricket Ground, where the second ODI also takes place two days later, before finishing on 20 March in Hobart.
