Pat Cummins becomes the most expensive overseas buy in IPL history
Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore were involved in an intense bidding race for the right-arm pacer who had a base price of INR 2 crore, before KKR jumped in to seal the record deal. Currently the top-ranked bowler in MRF Tyres ICC Test Rankings for bowlers, Cummins has had a great year in white-ball cricket too and had bagged seven wickets from five T20Is against Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the start of the home season.
England skipper Eoin Morgan was the other major buy for Kolkata, going for INR 5.25 crore. Both Morgan and Cummins have played for the two-time champions previously.

Glenn Maxwell (INR 10.75 crore) and Chris Morris (INR 10 crore) were the next two expensive purchases after Cummins, going to Kings XI Punjab and the Royal Challengers Bangalore respectively. Veteran South African speedster Dale Steyn, Australia skipper Aaron Finch and fast bowler Kane Richardson were the other major overseas signings for Bangalore.
West Indies dasher Shimron Hetmyer (INR 7.75 crore) and fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell (INR 8.5 crore) went to Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab respectively. Two of the competition's most successful franchises, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings went hard after Australia fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile, before the defending champions eventually bagged him for INR 8 crores. Chris Lynn too went to Mumbai Indians for his base price of INR 2 crores, while Sam Curran, the English all-rounder was roped in by CSK for INR 5.5 crores.

Australia all-rounders Marcus Stoinis (INR 4.8 crore) and Mitchell Marsh (INR 2 crore) were bought by the Delhi Capitals and Sunriseres Hyderabad respectively. Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2.4 crore.
Chris Woakes and Jason Roy (DC), Josh Hazlewood (CSK), David Miller (RR), James Neesham (KXIP) and Andrew Tye (RR) were signed at their base prices. English bowling all-rounder Chris Jordan was bought by Kings XI Punjab for INR 3 crores.
Priyam Garg, who will lead India at the ICC Men's U19 Cricket World Cup 2020, was signed by SRH for INR 1.9 crores while his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal went to Rajasthan Royals for INR 2.4 crores.
