Patterson leads Aussies past India
Kurtis Patterson was man of the match after scoring a vital 99 that helped the home side chase down a challenging target of 261 in hot and sunny conditions at Tony Ireland Stadium.
Patterson, a left-hander from New South Wales, hit nine fours and a six in his 112-ball knock as Australia sealed their first victory of the tournament with five balls to spare.
South Australian wicketkeeper/batsman Travis Head (54) and Melbourne Renegades and Victorian Bushrangers big-hitter Merrick Buchanan (51) also contributed with handy knocks in Australia's middle order.
New South Wales fast bowler Gurinder Sandhu (3-40 from 10 overs) and Victorian spinner Ashton Agar (3-55 from 10) were Australia leading wicket takers.
India remain winless but will be pleased with their improvement on Saturday after they lost to New Zealand in the opening clash of the round-robin tournament.
They will rue the frequent loss of wickets in the middle order before tailender Kamal Passi swung the bat late to boost his side to 260 all out from 50 overs.
