Perry's record 7/22 decimates England for 3-0 ODI sweep

Ashes Perry

Perry more than made up for a rare failure with the bat in Australia's competitive 269/7, reducing England to 21/6 on Sunday, 7 July – a score from which there could be no easy recovery.

While Megan Schutt kept up the pressure at one end, Perry made canny use of the Canterbury slope to extract late swing. England, whose batting has struggled all series, had few answers to be bowled out for 75, conceding the ODI leg of the multi-format series 3-0 along with a 6-0 lead in points.

The Australian all-rounder struck in her third delivery, with Amy Jones' edge finding mid-on. She then returned to have Tammy Beaumont and Sarah Taylor out in back-to-back deliveries – Beaumont trapped in front, Taylor edging an out-swinger.

Heather Knight and Danielle Wyatt fell in another double-wicket over, with Wyatt too taken in by the movement to complete Perry's third ODI five-for.

England didn't have the ignominy of crumbling to a new lowest total for them – the unwanted record stands at 50 – but they were still humbled in their second-biggest defeat by runs to Australia.

Earlier, put in, Australia lost opener Nicole Bolton early to Anya Shrubsole. Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning, however, both made half-centuries in a 109-run stand for the second wicket. Nat Sciver triggered a collapse in the middle overs, as Australia slipped from 130/1 to 161/4.

Their batting depth again came through as late contributions down the order lifted them to 269/7. It was a competitive total, which quickly was out of England's reach.

The teams next play a Test match on 18 July in Taunton, before moving to the Twenty20 Internationals.
