PNG complete perfect week against EAP
The PNG Scholarship players completed a white wash over the EAP side with comprehensive victories in the last two T20 matches.
Both matches saw team PNG breeze past EAP with comfortable victories as they recorded an 8 wicket victory in the first match followed by a 26 run victory in the second match the same afternoon.
EAP won the toss and elected to bat on another belter of a pitch at Runaway bay. They lost key batsman Andrew Mansale in the first over and from then on struggled to score at more than a run a ball.
PNG bowlers led by new ball bowlers Norman Vanua (3/7 off 3 overs) and Toua Tom (1/15 off 3 overs) made the EAP batsman work overtime as they struggled to 7/102 off their 20 overs. Spinners Jason Kila (2/27 off 4 overs) and Tony Ura (1/12 off 3 overs) proved to be a handful as well providing some tight bowling in the middle period.
With a below par score to chase, PNG batsman Assad Vala (44 off 52 balls) and Charles Amini (47 off 39 balls) made light work of the chase to pass the score in the 18th over to hand team PNG their third win on the trot over EAP.
The afternoon match saw PNG bat first and tinker with the order pushing in-form trio Assad Vala, Tony Ura and Charles Amini down the end of the batting order.
Jason Kila and Lega Siaka opened the batting and continued in the same explosive fashion as their fellow openers Vala and Ura have done so over the last couple of months.
PNG raced to 41 in six overs before Kila was bowled for a quick-fire 20 (17 balls), Siaka then continued to score at more than a run a ball before he also fell for 25 (19 balls). Skipper Chris Amini (27 not out off 23 balls) with Toua Tom (25 not out off 16 balls) kept the score board ticking to push the total to 6/134.
The last three overs saw PNG score 40 runs.
The EAP chase started confidently as they kept up with the run-rate in the first couple of overs and pushed to register their first victory.
However, once again some tight bowling and brilliant fielding from team PNG which included a brilliant catch to PNG women's captain Norma Ovasuru saw EAP struggle to keep up with the run rate as they finished their innings on 4/108 off their 20 overs to hand PNG their fourth victory.
Tony Ura was the pick off the PNG bowlers with 2/19 off his four overs with Toua Tom also chipping in with 1/15 (four overs).
