The PNG national women's team the Pacific MMI Lewas have departed Port Moresby and are on route to Vanuatu for the 2012 Pepsi ICC East Asia-Pacific Women's Championship that begins next week in Port Vila.

The team will undertake a three day camp on the Gold Coast where they will play two practice matches against the Gold Coast Dolphins who will be strengthened by the inclusion of some of their Queensland Firebird representatives.

PNG coach Peter Moide is happy with where his side is at after nearly two years away from International competition and has his sights set on reversing the result against Japan in 2010.

"I am very confident with my Pacific MMI ladies. We've been training hard over the last 2 months working on specific areas in our game and I am expecting them to bring the trophy back to PNG," said Moide. "We are proud that all 14 women are home grown and have a mixture of youth and experience and I believe the ladies will deliver."

On the Gold Coast the Lewas will also get the opportunity to work with PNG Hebou Barramundis coach Peter Anderson who will assist them in some last minute fine tuning to their T20 approach.

PNG will be able to gauge their improvement from 2010 on day one at this event when they take on two of the more fancied opposition. They will meet Samoa in their opening match on Monday morning before coming up against Fiji in the afternoon.
