PNG thrash Vanuatu to grab top spot

The PNG Rokroks continued their impressive form at the 2009 Pepsi ICC EAP U15 Cricket 8s Trophy being held in Jakarta, Indonesia this week.

Round 5 included the long awaited clash between the previous finalists in Under 15 ICC EAP competition, the PNG Rokroks and Vanuatu.

The PNG Rokroks won the toss and elected to bat, with openers Bau and Boga flaying the Vanuatu attack to all parts of the Cibubur Ground in a superb display of batting. Bau was particularly damaging, hitting some exquisite cover drives combined with some powerful hitting down the ground. The Rokroks eventually closed their innings at 6-243.

Chasing such a total was always going to be a challenge against the PNG attack boasting the pace and swing of left arm paceman Vagi, and the star of the young Rokroks didn't disappoint.

Vagi swung the first ball of the innings into captain Blake's off-stump, before cartwheeling Bainos' stumps two balls later, and finally bowling Chilia to complete his first over with the figures of three for none.

Vagi finished with 6 wickets for 6 runs from 3 overs, collecting another Player of the Match award and leading his team to a commanding victory.

In another important clash on Day 3, Samoa won the toss and sent Indonesia in to bat at Karawang. Indonesia combined patience with some confident shot-making to reach an impressive 6 for 152, with the acrobatic Maxi Koda reaching 54 not-out and Gema Fajar 40.

In reply Samoa batted extremely well to reach the target in the 16th over, Zachary Schuster scored an impressive 53 not-out to notch another win for his country.
