Radio Australia live from EAP Cricket Cup
Radio Australia correspondent Tanya O'Shea will report live for the station from the action at the East Asia - Pacific (EAP) Cricket Cup tournament in Port Vila, Vanuatu from 23-29 September. The tournament brings together the national teams of Cook Islands, Japan, Indonesia, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu in the round robin seven-day event.
O'Shea, a presenter on the popular program `In The Loop' broadcast throughout South East Asia and the Pacific, will represent Radio Australia at the event and provide reports on all matches as well as providing live crosses, interviews and covering current affairs surrounding the first international cricket event staged in Vanuatu.
"Having Tanya reporting live from the tournament will further strengthen the relationship between the station and the sport", commented Radio Australia's Executive Producer English Language Programs, Brendon Telfer. "The recent Ashes series between Australia and England was broadcast live throughout the Radio Australia network for the first time and this is the next big cricket event on the region's calendar."
The tournament is a qualifier for the 2006 EAP Cricket Trophy with the top two teams in Vanuatu contesting Fiji for a place in the ICC World Cricket League Division III in 2007. The ICC World Cricket League is the qualifying tournament program for the ICC Cricket World Cup to be staged in 2011.
"This tournament is the major cricket event for the year in the region and Radio Australia's support provides a great opportunity for people from Japan through to Tonga to keep informed of their team's progress and support their country" noted ICC EAP Development Manager Tim Anderson "Radio Australia's support of cricket is greatly appreciated and the EAP Cricket Cup fits nicely in the schedule after the fiercely contested Ashes Series and before the Johnnie Walker Super Series in Australia starting 5 October."
