Rajasthan beats Delhi by 5 wickets, Yusuf hits 62

Another fireworks show from Yusuf Pathan led the defending champions, Rajasthan Royals to a five-wicket win, ending the Delhi Daredevils unbeaten start to the Indian Premier League on Tuesday.

Delhi made 143-7 and Rajasthan seemed headed for defeat at 64-5. But Pathan blasted six sixes and three boundaries for 62 off 30 balls to help Rajasthan reach 147-5 with nine balls to spare at Centurion.

Yusuf, who smashed a 21-ball 42 against Kolkata, and Graeme Smith put on an unbeaten 83 for the sixth wicket and victory. Smith faced 46 balls in his 44.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra took 3-34 to put Rajasthan in trouble.

Rob Quiney played across to be given out lbw for 4 off Ashish Nehra in the fourth over, and Swapnil Asnodkar was run out for 11 by Mishra at 31-2.

Mishra got his first wicket when Paul Valthaty failed to clear mid off on 1 for Daniel Vettori to take a comfortable catch. Three balls after the strategic time out, Mishra surprised Ravindra Jadeja with another quicker delivery which he mis-hit on 16 to Pradeep Sangwan at deep midwicket. Mishra deceived Shane Warne, who was stumped by wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik for a duck.

But Yusuf and Smith calmed Rajasthan nerves to lift the side into the top four.

Earlier, AB de Villiers knocked 50 off 40 balls with five boundaries and a six to rally Delhi from 48-4.

De Villiers - the only batsman to strike a century in the tournament so far - took the attack to the seamers and boosted Delhi to 105-5, hitting strongly on the off-side. The South African was dismissed by Warne in the 16th over, attempting to sweep past short leg.

Batting at No. 6, Daniel Vettori scored 29 from 28 balls to bolster the score before he was bowled by Munaf Patel in the 19th over.

Patel and Dimitri Mascarenhas and leg-spinner Warne each took two wickets apiece for Rajasthan.
