Ranatunga appointed Sri Lanka Cricket Chairman

"The present incumbent Jayanta Dharmadasa has resigned and Arjuna Ranatunga will take over as the Chairman of the SLC from tomorrow", SLC spokesman Samantha Algama was quoted as saying to news agencies.
One of the most illustrious careers in the Islanders’ cricket history, Ranatunga, played in the nation’s inaugural Test match in 1982 and played until1999.
The left-handed batsman hit the winning runs against Australia in the 1996 World Cup final at Lahore to catalog his name amidst other legends in the history books.
Ranatunga takes up the mantle of cricket chief at a time when the national side is undergoing a transition, with aging players contemplating retirement.
In 93 Test matches, Ranatunga scored 5,105 runs at an average of 35.69. He also took 16 wickets.
He featured in 269 one-day internationals, scoring 7,457 runs at an average of 35.84 also taking 79 wickets.
