Positives to take homeDespite losing all their group stage matches, the experience of playing at the ICC Women's World T20 Qualifier 2018 against the likes of Bangladesh, the winners, UAE and PNG will help the Netherlands assess their performance and learn from mistakes. Compared to their last two qualifier outings, the Netherlands have upped their game overall, although there's still some distance to go.

In this year's edition, they crossed the 100-run mark thrice, which they hadn't before. Both their encounters against UAE came down to the last over, with the last one – the seventh-place play-off – going down to a Super Over climax.

Areas to improveNot registering even a single win in home conditions exposed the Netherlands' weakness in all the areas. Batting, in particular, is something they need to work on. Apart from Sterre Kalis, none of the batters managed to make a major dent.

Their bowlers too need to improve when under pressure. Against the UAE, they came really close to getting off to a winning start but lost their opening match on the third last ball of the match. While in the seventh-place play-off, when the Netherlands needed to defend 12 from the last over, pressure got the better off them and after the match was tied, they went on to lose the Super Over.

Rising starSterre Kalis: The 20-year-old Netherlands opener topped the run-getters' chart after scoring 231 from five matches averaging 57.75, which included two half-centuries, both of which came against UAE. Her unbeaten 88 from 68 balls in the first game was one of the best knocks of the tournament. Her second half-century came in the last match, where she made a brisk 65-ball 79. In total, she hit the most number of boundaries in the tournament – 27.
