Robinson and Tongue fifers put England in control in Leeds

An enticing day of Test cricket at Headingley in Leeds as Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue returned with five-wicket hauls to bundle out Pakistan for 171 after the visitors were asked to bat first.

England returned strongly with the bat in their pursuit of taking a first-innings lead, helping themselves to 112/2 at stumps with skipper Joe Root (37*) and Jordan Cox (23*) remaining at the crease.

Pakistan's day with the bat began in terrible fashion after Azan Awais was dismissed off the very ball of the ICC World Test Championship series by Robinson.

The visitors' struggle with the bat showed up in the absence of their regular skipper Babar Azam but Imam-ul-Haq showed character with a composed 42 while Abdullah Shafique's resilience helped him get to 61,

Tongue (5-46) and Robinson's (5-51) fiery spell ensured them their fourth and fifth five-fors in Test cricket as Pakistan lost all 10 wickets for 171.

In return, Ben Duckett (15) and Emilio Gay (33) showed signs of holding fort but Mohammad Abbas and Mohammad Ali struck to remove the opening pair off successive overs.

Root and Cox proceeded to steady the ship with an unbeaten 64-run stand for the third wicket as England trail by 59 runs in the first innings.
