Bangalore were routed for the sixth-lowest total in the competition's history, as Chennai’s spinners controlled the innings. Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh dominated the Powerplay, and went on to finish his spell with the key wickets of Kohli, Moeen Ali and AB de Villiers.

Shimron Hetmyer was run out for a duck to compound Bangalore’s misery, before Imran Tahir proved a lethal customer for the lower order, taking 3/9 from his four overs. Ravindra Jadeja also got in on the act, collecting two wickets.

Parthiv Patel was the only figure in the RCB line-up to reach double figures, and was the last man to be dismissed, falling for 29 to Dwayne Bravo’s first and only ball of the innings.

In reply, Chennai were watchful in reaching the lowly target. Shane Watson – Player of the Tournament at the PSL – departed for a 10-ball duck, and the Powerplay ended with the batting side restricted to 16/1. Economical spells from the Bangalore bowlers delayed the victory march for Chennai, who eventually secured victory with 14 balls to spare, as Ambati Rayudu top-scored with 28.
