Rumeli Dhar set for comeback after six years

India Women have called up Rumeli Dhar, the veteran all-rounder, for the three remaining games of the Twenty20 International series against South Africa as replacement for the injured Jhulan Goswami.

Dhar, 34, is set to make a comeback to the side after close to six years, having last played for India in a one-day international in March 2012.

She was Player of the Match in India’s first ever T20I, which they played against England Women in Derby back in August 2006. Pushed up the order then, she took to an unfamiliar format and was unbeaten on 66 in 69 balls.

Dhar, who has 1,092 runs and 73 wickets from her medium pace in 93 limited-overs internationals and had a reputation as a sharp fielder, is coming off a strong season with Delhi, who won the Indian senior domestic T20 tournament.

Goswami had suffered a heel injury ahead of the T20Is and had been advised two weeks’ rest.

India are leading the five-match series 2-0. The next game is on Sunday, 18 January.
