The ICC recognizes its duty to protect the welfare of and to provide a safe environment for all connected with ICC Events. Therefore, the ICC has taken appropriate steps ahead of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 against any kind of inappropriate behaviour which may occur at or around the Event in order to (a) safeguard the welfare of Participants and others who might be affected by improper conduct and (b) protect the image, popularity, and integrity of cricket.

The ICC’s Safeguarding Regulations specifies Prohibited Conduct, reporting and investigation procedure, consequences, and the disciplinary process. All participants, by virtue of participation in the tournament, are deemed to have agreed to abide by the terms of the ICC’s Safeguarding Regulations, including agreeing not to behave in an inappropriate way. In particular, not to do something that others may interpret as provocative, threatening, discriminatory, offensive, or indecent.

It has been identified that education is the first step towards an effective prevention mechanism. Therefore, one of the key safeguarding objectives at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 is to build awareness among the Participants. The communication strategies at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will include pre-event education sessions, training of key personnel and distribution of detailed advisory documents to all Participants to ensure the rights, responsibilities, and mechanisms to report are clearly understood. Additionally, posters with key information will be displayed at identified locations throughout the Event period.

The aim of raising awareness on safeguarding is to encourage Participants to report if they witness or are a victim of inappropriate behaviour at the Event. Sally Clark, senior legal counsel – Integrity, has been appointed as the ICC Safeguarding Lead for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. Reports can be made confidentially to the ICC Safeguarding via email and telephone set-up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Once reported, the matter will be immediately raised with the ICC’s General Counsel for further investigation, ascertain there is a breach of Regulations, and determine consequent disciplinary proceedings outlined as per the ICC Safeguarding Regulations.

The ICC will take a firm stance towards inappropriate behaviour at the Event.
