Sanjay Bangar set to be replaced as India batting coach

The all-India senior selection committee conducted interviews this week to select the support staff for India’s men’s side. With 14 candidates in the running for the position of batting coach, Rathour was shortlisted as the leading candidate by the committee, with Bangar following him in second position. Former England batting coach Mark Ramprakash was listed as third.

Bangar has been India’s batting coach since 2014, following on from a playing career that saw him represent the national side in 12 Tests and 15 ODIs between 2001 and 2004.

Bharat Arun and Ramakrishnan Sridhar will remain part of India’s backroom staff, having been named as the top candidates for the positions of bowling coach and fielding coach, respectively.

Former India fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad – who took 292 international wickets – was listed as the third-choice candidate for the role of bowling coach.

A statement from the BCCI added: “The CEO BCCI is requested to take the necessary steps to conclude the appointments.”

The selection of the support staff follows on from the BCCI's announcement last week that Ravi Shastri will continue his role as India's head coach through to 2021.
