Almost eight years since they played their first-ever Test match in India, Afghanistan will compete against India in a one-off Test during their tour of the country in June.

The Test will be played in New Chandigarh, starting June 6. The fixture will mark only the second time the two teams face off each other in the longest format.

Afghanistan had last featured in a Test match against Zimbabwe last year in Harare, a game that closed with a loss by an innings and 73 runs for the visitors.

The Test will be followed by a three-match ODI series as the two teams look up to next year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The white-ball series will begin with the two teams squaring off in Dharamsala on June 14 followed by the second (June 17) and third ODI (June 20) in Lucknow and Chennai respectively.

Afghanistan have recently undergone a major change in the dressing room with Richard Pybus taking over as the head coach following Jonathan Trott’s departure.

Trott, who was at the helm during their recent impressive string of results at the ICC tournaments, including a first T20 World Cup semi-finals spot, stepped down from his role following their exit from the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

India on the other hand, sealed a qualification to the semi-finals after their win over the West Indies and will face England in the final four on March 5.

Schedule of Afghanistan's tour of India:

One-off Test: June 6-10, New Chandigarh
First ODI: June 14, Dharamshala
Second ODI: June 17, Lucknow
Third ODI: June 20, Chennai
