Scholarship winner Iain Latin takes part alongside Academy

Gibraltar's Iain Latin will be attending the ICC European Men's Academy after a scholarship won at ICC Europe's Presidents' Day in 2011.

Sachin Bajaj Managing Director of the Global Cricket School donated a 10 day coaching package including accommodation and meals as a prize in ICC Europe's Trevor Henry Memorial Fund raffle; Christian Rocca President of the Gibraltar Cricket Board won and he handed the place to their national team captain Iain Latin.

Latin is delighted to be able to take up the scholarship place alongside the current Men's Academy, "I am very fortunate to attend the Academy as a result of the GCS scholarship. I was very happy as the academy programme is always something I've wanted to do and I missed out when I was younger. I feel I have a better understanding of the game which could help me get more out of the programme," says Latin.

Latin performed well for Gibraltar at the European U23 Division 2 Championship in 2007, where he won Player of the Tournament averaging 72 runs. He also played in the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 7 where he scored the highest total number of runs for Gibraltar totaling 178. "I think the European Championships and ICC global competitions are the real test, I'm really hoping to be able to take lots back to the national senior squad as Gibraltar needs to be playing globally in the World Cricket League. Hopefully, I will be able to transfer a lot to the rest of the team, that can help prepare us for the ICC European World Cricket League 8 Qualifier," says Latin.

Having the scholarship based in India allows the participant to experience a different environment from what they usually would experience in a training camp. The 27-year-old explains, "I am looking forward to working with different coaches and players. Gibraltar is not the biggest of countries so it will be nice to share this with other cricketers. India is fascinating culturally and it will definitely be an eye opener, to see how parts of the world are introduced to cricket.

"It will be really interesting to bowl on different turf wickets and work alongside 12 other cricketers at the top of their game," concludes Latin.
