Scotland announce ODI and T20I squads for UAE tour

Scotland have named two separate squads for the upcoming tour of UAE in February-March 2024.

Scotland will travel to the UAE for an ODI tri-series involving the hosts and Canada, which will be played under the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 umbrella. Additionally, the tour will feature a three-match T20I series against the UAE

Brothers Scott Currie and Brad Currie are amongst the three players to earn a maiden ODI call-up. Nineteen-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Charlie Tear has also been picked for the first time in an international squad.

Brad Currie has already been capped in T20Is for Scotland and has 12 wickets in six matches after making his debut last year.

Pacer Brad Wheal is set to make a comeback to the ODI squad after an absence of nearly five years; his last appearance in the 50-over format for Scotland dating back to 2019.

The experienced Richie Berrington will captain the squads in both formats.

“This tour is a great opportunity for our players to go out and compete in a variety of formats, and the selection has been about trying to find a balance, firstly between producing our strongest possible performances in the first round of CWCL2 matches, and secondly on having an eye on future demands," Head of Performance, Steve Snell said.

“It’s no secret that the Men’s squad haven’t had any matches for nearly six months, so it’s important we give as many people as possible an opportunity to play some cricket, whilst remaining competitive on the field.

"These squads give several players an opportunity to show what they can do, as we look ahead towards the T20 World Cup in the summer."
