Sehwag out for 2-3 months, may miss Champions Trophy

India’s vice-captain and hard hitting batsman Virender Sehwag’s recovery period could take 2-3 months, putting his participation in the upcoming Champions Trophy in doubt.

Sehwag is currently under rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bangalore as he recovers from the shoulder injury.

The BCCI announced on June 9 that Sehwag, vice-captain for the ICC World Twenty20 2009 had been ruled out of the competition.

The opening batsman underwent surgery on June 11 after a lesion was identified in his shoulder.

Sehwag was injured during the Indian Premier League in South Africa prior to the Twenty20 event. During the course of the tournament, The Delhi captain while fielding against Bangalore, fell on his right shoulder.

He will be under the observation of team physio Nitin Patel and is expected to wear a sling for at least the next month till his lesion heals. Sehwag will be examined after an operation at the end of 10 weeks to find out if the shoulder is strong enough to throw a ball.

The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to take place from September 24 to October 5 in South Africa.
