Shikhar Dhawan among the best one-day players, says Sourav Ganguly
Dhawan may have missed out on a century against Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground on Friday, 12 April, but his knock was key to Delhi Capitals pulling off an impressive seven-wicket win. It earned him praise from Ganguly, who is the Delhi Capitals consultant.
The left-hander batted with characteristic fluency in Eden Gardens. The knock prompted Ganguly to rate him as among the top one-day players when on song.
CENTURY: Dhawan gets to his 10th ODI ton
"He batted like Shikhar Dhawan today," Ganguly said in an interaction with the batsman on iplt20.com. "I've said that the three best players in one-day cricket [are] Dhawan, Rohit, Virat – and MS Dhoni, four. So he batted like Shikhar Dhawan – when he gets set and gets in, he's unstoppable.
"All I expect from him is determination. When he's determined, no bowler in the world can stop him."
Delhi won the game with nine balls to spare, which meant that there was still plenty of time to bring Dhawan back on strike to allow him to bring up his century, but Colin Ingram finished things off with a six. Dhawan wasn't displeased about missing out on three figures while Ganguly pointed out that he has more than a handful of tons in ODI cricket.

"I would have loved to have a hundred, but at the same time team goal was [at the] top for me," said Dhawan. "That's why it was important for me to be there till the end and I'm as happy. For me 97 is (like) a hundred as well."
"It's bigger than a hundred," Ganguly chimed in. "He has 16 one-day hundreds in 120 matches, so he'll get more."
Dhawan has long been one of India's most consistent performers in fifty-over cricket, but his performances have been patchy in recent weeks. With the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 on the horizon, the team will hope that this knock marks his return to his consistent best.
