'Sport could play a huge role in uplifting the world' – Eoin Morgan

As things stand now, competitive cricketing action has come to standstill as the world grapples to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. Several international cricket series have been cancelled or postponed as well as domestic cricket in many countries, including England, has also been affected.

Eoin Morgan feels sport will have a huge role to play in uplifting spirits around the world once things get under control.

"Sport could play a huge role in uplifting the world and people's perspective on things," the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019-winning captain said. "Isolation encourages idle minds. Sport can create that theatre and that level of expectation around what it's like to be outside again and be active. If it came to it, I think it would be a huge step forward.

"Obviously times are still uncertain at the moment," he added. "Realistically we can't think about playing until the situation is downgraded from a pandemic."

Cricketers around the world are doing their bit to help in the fight against the pandemic. While the likes of Heather Knight and Sophia Dunkley have joined the NHS as volunteers, Jos Buttler has auctioned his World Cup-winning jersey. Morgan lauded the gesture.

"It's an incredibly kind gesture. I'm not one for holding on to memorabilia. Other people are different," Morgan said. "The shirt will go for a lot of money and it should do. But the gesture within itself to aid new equipment to be bought is absolutely outstanding."
