Squads announced as teams touch down for the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier – Africa Division 2

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announces the final squads for the 2016 ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier – Africa Division 2 to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from September 10th – 19th, 2016.

There are seven (7) teams competing in the tournament with the top two (2) teams promoted to the Division 1 Qualifier to be held in 2017.

The participating teams are Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Zambia.

The two teams who are promoted will have the opportunity to play for direct qualification to the 2018 ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup.

Newly appointed ICC Development Manager – Africa, Mr Jesse Chellan, is looking forward to the opportunity to watch teams from the Africa region in action for the first time:

“I am excited to have the opportunity to see the future stars of our region so soon after starting the role. It is a chance for these players to showcase their potential and ability while also competing for the opportunity to progress into next year’s Division 1 tournament”.

“Direct qualification into the ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup is on offer to the Division 1 teams which means there is a lot to play for here,” said Chellan.

Nigeria and Sierra Leone are favourites for the tournament after being relegated from the previous Africa Under 19 Division 1 tournament.

The first round of matches will be played on Saturday September 10th with the two highest placed teams on the points table at the end of the round robin progressing through to the next stage of qualification.

All matches are being played at Sahara Park Willowmore and will be live scored through CricHQ.
