Sri Lanka calls for CWC 2011 volunteers

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 Secretariat in Sri Lanka has launched its awareness campaign for engaging volunteers to work at the tournament.

The organisers are looking for committed and passionate people above 18 years to apply for the volunteering programme and over 150 volunteers will be recruited to work at the three venues in the Hambantota, Pallekele and Colombo regions.

Game time volunteers will work in a variety of roles supporting functional areas such as ground entry, ticketing, ushering, transportation, catering, housekeeping, media and PR, stakeholder experience, ceremonies, hospitality, venue support, parking lots and security. A few pre-event volunteers will work with the Secretariat and venue managers in the build up to the event.

Minimum qualifications apply which are available, along with a registration form, online on the Volunteer area at www.srilankacricket.lk.

The organisers are targeting school leavers, University students and graduates, as well as experienced corporate employees.

Regional recruitment drives and walk-in interviews will be organised between 9th to 12th in Hambantota at the Vihara Maha Devi Human Development Centre, Mirijjivila and 16th to 19th at Mahaweli Reach in Kandy.

In Colombo initial applications will be called online through the Sri Lanka Cricket website. Applications can also be mailed for the attention of the Volunteer Manager, World Cup Secretariat, 35, Maitland Place, Colombo 7. Applications close on 31st December 2010.

It is hoped that by working at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, volunteers will develop important new skills and improve their employability in the future.

Therefore apart from the practical experience that a volunteer can gain at the event, the organisers are hoping to provide skills development workshops on open enrollment which will include Leadership Development, Team Work and Character Building. Additionally a limited number of scholarships will be awarded to outstanding volunteers to develop a vocational skill or English proficiency.
