Strong Junior Talant in Vanuatu's North
The Sanma cricket development office located on Vanuatu's northern island of Santo recently conducted a 'Cricket Talent ID Week' involving forty-six students at the Santo East School sports field.
The Cricket Talent ID Week activities were focused on upgrading and improving the skills and knowledge of the students in the game of cricket.
Areas covered during the two weeks were: cricket bat handling skills, fielding and ball catching skills, bowling skills, game rules, how runs are scored during matches and more.
The participants of the 'Cricket Talent ID Week' were selected from the U-13 Boys Cricket competition that ended on 9th May 2012 at the Unity Park.
The participants were selected based on the player's interest in cricket as a sport, skills and knowledge of the game, highest runs scored in each cricket match and number of wickets taken during the U-13 school cricket competition.
Mr Graham Lele, Sanma Provincial Cricket Association Development Officer said, "after the Cricket Talent ID Week, we are proud to say that three of these students have been selected into the Under 16 National pre-squad who are preparing to take part in the upcoming New Caledonia Inter-Provincial Games. The students are: Augustine Toa (Sarakata SDA School), Justine Nickson (Luganville Est School) and Junior Kaltapau (Santo East Primary School)."
In other Sanma cricket news, the Sanma Cricket Development Office wishes to inform all schools in Luganville that the Under 15 School Cricket competition for girls will begin on the 6th of June 2012 at the Unity Park.
