Suva Flames remain unbeaten

Yesterday's late afternoon match at the Fiji National Women's Championships saw the only two unbeatens sides play each other.

The Nadi Jets took on the Suva Flames and what a dramatic finish. The Suva flames scoring 99/9 to win by 1 wicket off the last ball of the 19th over.

They got there, thanks to contributions all the way through the order and Anamaria Naimasi with 18. Star of the tournament to date Makelesi Mada, almost won it for Nadi taking 4 wickets for 7 runs. Earlier Slilipa Tawatatu with 4 wickets for 4 runs had held the jets to 98 after Semaema Raramasi with 15 runs and Makarata Dawai with 17 runs had made good contributions.

Game one on Day three, saw the Moce Islanders post 124 runs losing 7 wickets from their 20 over's against the struggling Suva Diamonds. The Islanders were helped by 30 wides and by some good batting from Sekoula Leba who made 19 and Mereia Tilau who made 24. Best of the bowlers for the Diamonds was Anna Polosi with 2 wickets for 15 runs from her 4 overs.

The Suva Diamonds where in trouble at 21/ 4 and then followed a total collapse to end on 39 thanks to Diana Vakalomo with 2 wickets for 2 runs and Sekoula Leba 2 wickets for 20 runs, Moce Islanders chalking up their first win by a massive 85 runs

Game two saw the unbeaten Flames take on the Lautoka Canes. The Suva Flames won the toss and elected to bat first posting 137 for the loss of only 4 wickets. National Women's rep Ruci Kaiwai continuing her good form making 35 not out and Tawatatau making 35. Best of the bowlers was Sera Kaukiono with 1/14 in 4 over's.

In reply the Lautoka Canes were never up with the run rate despite another good innings from Sera Kaukiono who made 40 and were 9 wickets down for 105 at the end of the 20 over's.

The bowling of the Suva Flames was just too good with Marica Vua, Ruci Kaiwai and Ana Tuipati all picking up 2 wickets.

This result means that if the Flames who are unbeaten to date win their last game against Moce Islanders on Friday they are guaranteed of winning the championship, regardless of other results.

Game three between the Moce Islanders and Nadi Jets was in progress at the time of going to press.
