Tanzania suffer MCC defeat
Tanzania's national team put up a brave fight against a strong MCC team before losing out by six wickets at Watford Town Cricket Club on Friday.
The tourists fielded an under-strength line-up, against an MCC side that included players with first-class experience, in a bid to avoid further injuries ahead of ICC WCL Division 4 in Italy.
Despite lacking the services of key all-rounders Hamisi Abdallah, Khalil Rehemtulla and Riziki Kiseto, Tanzania gave their opponent a scare before the match slipped towards an inevitable conclusion.
Tanzania won the toss and elected to bat in overcast conditions that provided regular showers during the day. A young batting line-up was unable to cope with the challenge and they were bundled out for 124 in the 42nd over.
The MCC also found life difficult when it was their turn to bat, slumping to 57-4 thanks to some impressive bowling.
Kenya national team player Hitesh Modi was then joined by wicketkeeper K. Jogya in a sensible partnership that saw their team to victory by the 32nd over.
Tanzania's last game of their UK tour is against Countesthorpe Cricket Club of Leicester on Sunday (August 8) before they depart for their WCL assignment in Bologna.
