Tanzid's historic ton leads Bangladesh's charge in Darwin
Bangladesh pressed on further with their advantage in the first Test against Australia.
The second day of the first contest in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 series between hosts Australia and Bangladesh, finished with the latter leading by 153 runs.
Adding to their gains from the first day, where Hasan Mahmud's 6/55 stunned Australia as the side were skittled for 198 the Tigers applied themselves with discipline and managed to overhaul the Australian total through efforts from Tanzid Hasan (101), Mominul Haque (49) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (84).
Tanzid created history with his ton, as he became the first player from Bangladesh to score a Test century in Australia.
Tanzid completed the feat midway through the second day in Darwin when he pushed Australian spinner Nathan Lyon down to mid-off for a single.
An innings that will live forever in Bangladesh's history books as Tanzid Hasan makes his country's first Test century on Australian shores 👏

While Tanzid fell shortly after for a well compiled 101, he still did enough to put his team in an advantageous position while he became just the second Bangladesh player to score a century against Australia after Shahriar Nafees scored 138 against them in Fatullah back in 2006.
Bangladesh's lead extended to nearly hundred when Australia managed to claw back with the second new ball, with Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins among wickets.
Their run was halted by Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Hasan Mahmud, who showed resistance with the bat, and increased Bangladesh's lead on a surface that showed signs of improvement.
