New Zealand’s Ross Taylor and Australia opener David Warner have achieved career-best rankings, while Darren Bravo of the West Indies has returned to the top 20 of the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen, which were updated after the Adelaide and Dunedin Tests.

Taylor scored 217 and 16 not out against the West Indies for which he has been rewarded with a jump of five places that has put him in seventh position, while Warner’s 29 and 83 not out against England have given him lifted him three places to 14th spot.

Bravo scored 40 and 218 in Dunedin, which has helped him return to the top 20 in 15th position, rising 10 places. He has now become the second highest-ranked West Indies batsman after Shivnarine Chanderpaul who has slipped two places to fifth position.

Australia captain Michael Clarke is also on the move and has gained one place to third after scoring 148 in the first innings in Adelaide. For his contribution in the second Test, Clarke has been awarded 14 ratings points, which means he now trails number-one ranked AB de Villiers by 25 ratings points and second ranked Hashim Amla by 14 ratings points.

Other batsmen to head in the right direction include Joe Root in 26th (up by six places), Brendon McCullum in 32nd (up by two places), Brad Haddin in 34th (up by eight places) and Darren Sammy in 61st (up by five places).

In the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers, Australia’s Peter Siddle, Shane Shillingford of the West Indies, Mitchell Johnson of Australia and New Zealand’s Tim Southee are some of the bowlers who have improved their rankings.

Siddle has moved up one place to seventh after returning match figures of five for 91, Shillingford has gained one place and is now in 15th position after match figures of five for 164, Johnson’s haul of seven for 40 and one for 73 has provided him a boost of two places to 17th, and Southee has moved into 18th position after returning figures of six for 153.

Southee’s new ball partner Trent Boult has climbed four places to sit just outside the top 20 in 21st position after he recorded figures of three for 40 and two for 81.

Dale Steyn of South Africa leads the field with team-mate Vernon Philander in second spot and Sri Lanka’s spinner Rangana Herath in third place.

There is no change in the top five of the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test All-rounders, which is headed by Ravichandaran Ashwin of India. England’s Stuart Broad is in fourth spot, Shane Watson of Australia is in sixth position, Sammy is ranked ninth and Southee is in 13th position.

The player rankings will next be updated after the conclusion of the third Test between Australia and England, which starts in Perth on Friday.
