Claire Taylor, England‘s prolific batter who is currently fifth in the world in women’s cricket for the total number of runs scored with 3202 was today, September 4, 2008, awarded her 100th one-day international cap.

Taylor was presented with her cap by captain Charlotte Edwards ahead of the third NatWest Women’s one-day international against India at Taunton, the Home of Women’s Cricket.

Taylor made her one-day international debut against current world champions Australia in 1998 and since then has not looked back having made seven hundreds and sixteen half-centuries. She has amassed a total of 3202 runs at an average of 38.12.

Her highest score came at Lord’s, the Home of Cricket in 2006 against India when she struck an unbeaten 156 and smashed Sir Viv Richards’ previous ODI record at the ground of 139. The MCC erected a poster board in honour of the achievement.

She is also very adept in the field with a very safe pair of hands and throughout her ten-year career has taken 36 catches, made five run outs and during her time as a wicket keeper she made five stumpings.

On today’s achievement, the 32 year old from Berkshire said: “I’m very excited at the prospect of playing 100 one-day internationals and joining a select group of world-class international players.

“Ultimately though it’s just another game which we have to play well in to secure this NatWest Women’s Series.”
