Indian batting maestro Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has now become the first man in the history of Test cricket to cross the 12,000 run mark. Tendulkar achieved this feat on the first day of the second Test against Australia being played at the PCA stadium in Mohali. The champion batsman walked in to bat when his team had lost 3 quick wickets and played a knock that led him to the No.1 spot in World Cricket. The Master Blaster, along with Sourav Ganguly, also steadied India’s sinking ship.

Sachin also took over the West Indian great Brian Charles Lara as the leading run-scorer in Test Cricket. He overhauled Lara’s tally of 11,953 runs in the first over of the post-tea session when he glided a Peter Siddle delivery towards third man to pick up three runs. This followed an outburst of emotion from the little man who pumped his fist in jubilation whilst fireworks erupted around the ground to mark his achievement and the crowd offered a standing ovation to their hero. With this feat, Tendulkar firmly stamps his name in the history books as one of the greatest batsmen the world has seen.

While Lara took fewer innings (232) as compared to Tendulkar’s 246 to score those runs, Sachin has outplayed the islander when it comes to reaching the number of three-figure marks. Lara has notched up 34 Test tons while Tendulkar currently has 39 centuries to his name. The prolific hitter also has 42 Test wickets under his belt.

The Master Blaster’s run tally also includes four double hundreds with an unbeaten knock of 248 being his present best. Tendulkar, who is also the highest run-scorer in the one-dayers, has now reaffirmed his supremacy in both formats of the game
