The latest on Anti-Corruption
The Anti-Corruption Unit has been working hard to ensure awareness of the corruption risks across all cricket, with a particular focus on Associate Members.
While it is known that corruptors will operate across all formats and levels of the game, reporting received over the past few years during various events has provided further insight into cricket corruption - from the networks and corruptors involved, to the types of fixes and payments being offered.
These days, many offers to fix occur prior to an event, before a player has even travelled, and are made via social media or WhatsApp. In the lead up to various impending ICC events and Franchise leagues, the unit has been working to ensure there is a clear understanding of the risks.
The team, with the support of ICC regional staff have now completed the delivery of specific anti-corruption sessions with each of the regions and their Members (Europe, Africa, Americas, East-Asia Pacific, and Asia). These were important sessions highlighting the risks of corruption and providing information and tools for Members to protect themselves.
Preparation for the Men’s T20 World Cup is underway across the ICC. From an anti-corruption perspective, simultaneously there is ongoing planning for bi-laterals and various domestic franchise events where the ICC ACU is appointed the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO). At any given time, the team are busy working across multiple events and matches in combination with ongoing Intelligence collection and Investigations. Protecting the game from corruption is a 24/7 function and the team are grateful for the increasing awareness and support from all Members.
