The records India could break against South Africa
India have already made history by securing their first-ever bilateral series win in any format in South Africa, taking an unassailable 4-1 lead into the sixth and final game of the ODI series. And their opportunities to re-write the record books are far from over, with several other statistical milestones in their sights.
2– The number of wickets Indian wristspinner Kuldeep Yadav needs to equal the record for most wickets in a bilateral ODI series, currently held jointly by Javagal Srinath and Amit Mishra, who each took 18 against New Zealand in 02/03 and Zimbabwe in 2013 respectively. Kuldeep currently has 16 wickets at an average of 11.56 in this series, joint-fifth on the list.
7– The number of wickets Kuldeep Yadav and legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal need to take between them to equal the record for the most wickets taken in a bilateral ODI series by one team’s spinners. They currently have 30 between them, having taken 16 and 14 wickets respectively. The record of 37 was set by Abdur Razzak (15), Shakib Al Hasan (7), Enamul Haque Jr (6), Mahmudullah (4), Naeem Islam (3), and Mohammad Ashraful (2) for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe in 2009. They have already broken the record for the most wickets taken by a spin pair in a bilateral ODI series.
62– The number of runs Indian captain Virat Kohli needs to score to equal the record for the most runs made in a bilateral ODI series. His current teammate Rohit Sharma made 491 runs against Australia in 2013.
33– The number of runs Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni needs to reach the milestone of 10,000 ODI runs. He will be the 12th batsman to do so, and the first to do so with an average in excess of 50 – Dhoni’s average is currently 51.37.
