Titwood is fourth Scottish ODI venue
Following extensive ground extension works and an official inspection by Chris Broad last week, the International Cricket Council has formally approved the upgrading of Clydesdale Cricket Club's Titwood ground for the hosting of ICC One-Day International matches.
Citylets Titwood, as the venue will be known for international matches, becomes the fourth Scottish ground to be granted ODI status, with Grange's Portgower Place ground, Aberdeenshire's Mannofield and Ayr's New Cambusdoon facilities having been approved in previous years.
"It is very important that Scottish cricket has a range of approved grounds for the increasing number of ODIs," explained Roddy Smith, chief executive of Cricket Scotland. "We have been very keen to have a venue within the City of Glasgow for some time and, thanks to the efforts of everyone at Clydesdale, Hutchesons' Grammar School and Glasgow City Council, this has become a reality.
"At Titwood, we were very fortunate in receiving full co-operation from Hutchie, who have enabled us to ?borrow' underused adjacent land for the purpose of staging ODIs. This land has been resculpted to meet our needs, and will be put to full use for the first time when India play Pakistan for The Friendship Cup in front of a crowd of up to 6,000."
This match, on Tuesday July 3, is an all-ticket affair, priced at £44 each, with proceeds going to the British Asian Trust, one of the Prince of Wales's charities. Applications for tickets are being taken online at www.britishasiantrust.com with a closing date of May 27, to allow a ballot to take place if necessary.
Citylets Titwood will also stage the first-ever ODI between Scotland and India on Thursday August 16, for which tickets priced £30 have been on sale for several weeks through www.cricketscotland.com.
