'To see women's cricket blossoming is exciting' – Alyssa Healy

Healy, 28, was part of the Australian team that won the ICC Women's World T20 2010, also held in the Caribbean. Eight years on, Healy is one of the mainstays in all Australian line-ups, with 942 runs from 80 Twenty20 Internationals.

A lot has changed in the intervening eight years, though. A new generation of cricketers has come up and the game has got a global appeal that is far greater than before.

"It is amazing. Obviously, we love playing cricket and we love being able to travel the world doing what we love, so I am incredibly grateful for the job I have," Healy told Sthalekar.

"To see it blossoming around the world – just recently Bangladesh beat India in the Asia Cup final, (it) is a great example of other nations jumping on board and supporting female cricketers, which is really exciting."

Australia were pipped to the post at the last ICC World T20, in India in 2016, when they lost to the Windies in the final in Kolkata.

Healy hopes that the team will make amends this time around. "Yeah, very much looking forward to that. The 2010 World Cup in the West Indies was my first experience of the World Cup and it was a successful one for Australia," she says. "I am really excited to go over there and hopefully be part of the Australian team and hopefully get another trophy after the disappointment of the last one."
