The stories of trailblazing female athletes feature in a short film released today on social media and set at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be played on Sunday 8 March 2020, International Women’s Day.

The film showcases tennis champion Billie Jean King, the first captain of the Afghanistan women’s football team Khalida Popal and Australian cricket legend Belinda Clark. These women have each played pioneering roles in driving equality through sport and their feats have helped to inspire future generations. In 2020, cricket can build on this momentum and write the next chapter in history.

Fans are urged to be part of this incredible opportunity and #FILLTHEMCG.

The current record for attendance at a women’s sporting fixture is 90,185, set at the final of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the USA. Holding the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 at the MCG, the biggest cricket stadium in the world, presents the opportunity to break the record.

The decider at the MCG will be the culmination of a nationwide festival of cricket, starting in just 32 days when, on Friday 21 February, hosts and reigning champions Australia take on India under lights at Sydney Showground Stadium. 10 teams will contest 23 matches in eight venues across six Host Cities, giving as many fans as possible the opportunity to be a part of it.

Tickets to all ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 matches, including the final, are on sale at t20worldcup.com from A$20 for adults and all children’s tickets are A$5.

Global music superstar Katy Perry will perform at the final.
