Two T20I tons in the bag, Danni Wyatt targets a third

Danielle Wyatt gave England a good start with a 17-ball 34

Danni Wyatt is one of only two women to have two Twenty20 International centuries against her name – with both of them coming since November. Now, the England batter is setting her sights on getting a third.

"I've got one in Australia and one in India, now I want one in England!" said Wyatt in an interview to Sky Sports ahead of England Women’s home summer.

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2017 winners are set to play three one-day internationals against South Africa as part of the ICC Women’s Championship, before New Zealand join the sides for a T20I tri-series. The first ODI is on Friday, 9 June.

It will be the first time the women play at home since their big day last July at Lord’s, when they lifted their world title. Much has changed since then – not least of all for Wyatt.

Before her century in the third T20I against Australia in the multi-format Ashes, Wyatt averaged just 12 from 70 T20Is. She was in and out of the squad, and was on the bench for the World Cup final.

The 27-year-old admitted that “knocked her confidence” and she wondered if she’d be back in the team again. But, she added, “it made me go out and train harder".

Now, that’s paying off as she’s an integral part of the setup. With coach Mark Robinson encouraging her to back herself “to hit every ball for six, which I’m good at doing at the moment”, she’s enjoying herself.

"In the past I have gone out there as a pinch-hitter who has just hit 20 off 15 balls, looked good and then thrown my wicket away.

"I'm very experienced now, I've been playing in the Women's Big Bash for three years, played 100-plus matches for England and it's nice to finally get a big score. I haven't looked back since I got my 100 in Canberra. Hopefully this is the start of many more runs to come."
