U19 Cricket World Cup star earns call-up to Afghanistan ODI squad

Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, who shone in the recent ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024 in South Africa, has earned a maiden call-up to the senior ODI team.

Afghanistan will once again be without Mujeeb ur Rahman (right phalanx sprain) and Rashid Khan (recovering after back surgery) for the three-match ODI series against Ireland starting on March 7.

With vacancies opening up in the spin department, Ghazanfar, whose mystery spin attracted attention at the U19 World Cup, alongside left-arm spinner Nangyal Kharoti earned call-ups to the squad.

"However, we have included some of the top-performing youngsters in Nangyal Kharoti and Bilal Sami. Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar is a very talented cricketer and has demonstrated excellent skills during the U19 World Cup. He will provide cover in Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s in the ODI series against Ireland.”

All three matches of the series will be played in Sharjah. The series begins on March 7 with the next two games on March 9 and March 12 respectively.
