Uganda’s Patrick Ochan reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of Conduct
Patrick Ochan of Uganda has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s play-off match against Canada on day 14 of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier New Zealand 2014 (CWCQ) at Bay Oval 2, Mount Maunganui, on Sunday.
Ochan was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of Article 2.1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.
The incident happened in the 7th over of the Canada innings, when Ochan showed dissent and disappointment when the umpires turned down an appeal for caught behind.
The player admitted the offence after the end of the match and accepted the sanction proposed by Dev Govindjee - ICC Regional Referees Panel. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
Mr Govindjee said of his decision: “The actions of Mr Ochan were in clear breach of the Code. I hope this serves as a reminder to Mr Ochan and all players to respect the umpires’ decisions at all times.”
The charges were brought by on-field umpires Ruchira Palliyaguru and Ahsan Raza, and third umpire John Dempsey.
All Level 1 breaches for such offences carry a penalty of a warning/reprimand and/or the imposition of a fine up to 50 per cent of the applicable match fee.
