Ura Wins Player of the Tournament

PNG's Tony Ura has capped of a magnificent Pepsi ICC East-Asia Pacific Division 1 that included 354 runs at an average of 59.00 to be named as the player of the tournament.

Ura was presented his award at last night's presentation evening that included a Q & A session with former Australian Players Andy Bichel, Brad Hogg and Greg Campbell as well as International Panel Umpire Bruce Oxenford.

"I am very happy and honoured to win an award like this," said Ura. "I also want to thank all teams for the competition."

Assad Vala (PNG) who just pipped Ura at the line with 372 runs at an average of 62.00 won the award for most runs, while PNG's Joel Tom with 10 wickets at an average of 9.60 takes the bowling award, narrowly beating home Fiji's Iniasi Cakacaka with 9 wickets at an average of 10.44.

PNG were also presented with their winners medallions and their captain Rarua Dikana acknowledged all participating teams in his speech.

"I want to thank all teams for coming to PNG for this tournament," he said. "I have seen improvement all over the region and I hope you all keep improving."

The team of the tournament was also announced and included four players from each of PNG and Vanuatu, three from Samoa and one from Fiji. The team is as follows:

Today PNG will play against a combined East-Asia Pacific side made up of some of the best young players from around the region. Brad Hogg will join these players in an attempt to topple the undefeated Barramundi's.

On the other ground Japan will play another combined side made up of players from Vanuatu and Fiji.
